Delightful Touraine cottages nestling within majestic woodlands
A place of biodiversity, where wildlife and plants thrive undisturbed
The woodlands at Domaine de la Trigalière, extending over more than 3,200 acres, provide a picture-perfect setting for our delightful Touraine cottages. A dozen ponds are dotted through them, covering over 120 acres in total. The clusters of softwoods include maritime pines, Scots pines and black pines, and we are beginning to introduce coastal redwoods. The clusters of predominantly hardwood trees are made up of Pyrenean and sessile oaks as well as birches. Some parts of the woods have retained their wild character.
Our woodlands are home to around 300 stags and hinds. Mushrooms, including ceps and chanterelles, grow in abundance. We manage our woodlands in accordance with a continuous cover forestry approach (Pro Silva), developing the diversity of species without any clear-cutting, with the emergence of irregular areas of high forest. Today, we sell environmental credits through Carbon Forest, for the 24H of Le Mans sports car race for instance, but also to other manufacturers. The woodlands are PEFC certified.
The Oak
Arboretum
We have created an oak arboretum, currently bringing together over 800 taxa, i.e. more than 800 different species of oak from all over the world. There are thought to be between 800 and 1,000 species worldwide. In the future, this young arboretum is intended to serve both a recreational and scientific purpose. One of its challenges is to test new tree species that could become established in the Touraine region, and thus contribute to the diversity of species in our woodlands at this time of climate change.
